Basic Rules to Follow at Our School to Help Us Stay Organized


Communication

  • Policy: Communication is key to success!

  • Implementation: Evolve Miami Team communicates with students via email, text, and our WhatsApp group. Please read all information sent. We value your privacy and will never give your personal contact information to a third party without your permission.

Forms

  • Policy: All students must fill out the “New Student Information” and “Student Agreement” forms.

  • Implementation: In-person students should complete these forms during their first class.

Parents’ Behavior in Class

  • Importance: Parents are allowed to watch class, but they should let the teacher direct the class without disruption and be respectful of the coach's authority. Parents who get involved in the class will be asked to remove themselves from the studio during class. Positive and respectful behavior from parents sets a good example for students and helps maintain a focused learning environment.

  • Implementation: Parents should support their children quietly and respectfully during class, avoid interrupting the instructor, and adhere to studio policies.

Punctuality

  • Policy: I understand that our schedules can sometimes be complicated, and we don't always have enough time for everything. We need to be flexible with students, but students also need to be committed.

  • Implementation: Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late should not participate in the class unless they have informed the instructor in advance via text message. The instructor should clearly communicate this rule and act with coherence and understanding.

Hygiene

  • Policy: Students should maintain good hygiene habits.

  • Implementation: Wear clean clothes to class and take precautions to avoid unpleasant odors that could affect other students' experiences.

Uniforms

  • Policy: Uniforms are required to maintain focus, organization, and professionalism. Wearing the uniform is required for all classes.

  • Implementation:

    • Official Uniform: On Saturdays, only official white pants and shirts should be worn.

    • Regular class: Withe pants, training pants, leggings, with capoeira shirts or capoeira tank tops are acceptable.

    • Capofit Class: Training pants, leggings, or shorts (not too short), with capoeira shirts or capoeira tank tops are acceptable.

    • For presentations and events: Students should wear the official uniform (white pants and shirt) unless a specific outfit is required, such as for the batizado or a show.

    • Colored capoeira pants: Colored pants are allowed if the event's setting permits.

    • For rodas de vadiação: (informal gatherings), free attire is allowed (except shorts).

    • Shoes: Train barefoot unless there are physical limitations. Use indoor-only shoes for hygiene reasons. Shoes are allowed for outdoor activities.

    • Students must keep uniforms neat and clean.

Studio Etiquette

  • Policy: Respect the studio rules to maintain a clean and safe training environment.

  • Implementation: Street shoes are not allowed in the studios. No food or beverages, except for water, are permitted.

Class Instruction

  • Policy: Only the designated instructor should teach.

  • Implementation: Other individuals, regardless of their rank, should participate as students to maintain a healthy and harmonious learning environment.

Class Behavior

  • Policy: Students should arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled class time, dressed and ready.

  • Implementation: Be well-mannered and courteous to others. Cell phone use is not allowed during class unless specified by the instructor.

Your belongings

  • Policy: Is important to help maintain the studio clean and organized. 

  • Implementation: Please make sure to collect your items, especially towels and water bottles, after each class. Any unclaimed items will be discarded after one week. And please throw your trash on the trash.

Attendance and Make-Ups

  • Policy: Attendance is crucial for your progress.

  • Implementation: Students must attend their regularly scheduled classes. We offer multiple options during the week for each program level, and students can take any class from their level or below. Students who are more than 15 minutes late without notifying the teacher will not be allowed to participate. There will be no pro-rated tuition or refunds for missed classes.

Scheduled and Unforeseen Closures

  • Policy: Evolve will be closed for many federal holidays and each winter between Christmas and New Year. Your program tuition includes these closures.

  • Implementation: If class is canceled due to inclement weather or any other reason, it will be held online. Students will be notified by email, text, and/or announcements in our WhatsApp group. If class cannot be held online, a special make-up session will be arranged.

Programs and Tuition

  • Policy: New students will enroll in a program of a specific length.

  • Implementation: To promote focus and a sense of community, we do not allow drop-ins. Tuition is due before the introduction session. Depending on the program length, payment options include monthly, single, biannual, or quarterly payments. Tuition is non-transferable and expires after six months. Written notice must be provided 30 days in advance for cancellation. Private lessons and special events must be paid in advance. There are no refunds.

Price

  • Policy: Price is based on the value of each level of classes and the commitment to growing in capoeira.

  • Implementation: Price is not based on the number of classes taken per week.

Additional Costs

  • Policy: Additional fees may apply for annual events and special workshops.

  • Implementation: Prices will vary depending on the student's current program level.

Technology

  • Policy: Use of phones is allowed during rodas only for videos and photos.

  • Implementation: During class, phone use is allowed only when determined by the instructor. Avoid talking on the phone or texting. In case of emergency, notify the instructor to prevent misunderstandings.

Relationships

  • Policy: Promote a positive, community-building attitude.

  • Implementation: Aim to strengthen the group as a whole, solve problems constructively, and avoid drama, gossip, and conflicts. Students who engage in negative behavior will be warned and, if it continues, may be asked to leave the group.

Roda Etiquette

  • Policy: Maintain focus and respect during the roda.

  • Implementation: Avoid unnecessary distractions, conversations, and joking. Use capoeira responsibly, with respect and loyalty, and avoid cowardice.

Visiting Other Groups

  • Policy: Students are not prohibited from participating in activities with other groups.

  • Implementation: The only concern is ensuring safety.

Conduct in Our and Other Groups

  • Policy: Always act with respect, honesty, and integrity.

  • Implementation: Avoid participating in or spreading lies, gossip, and anything that goes against our group's values of creating a healthy, inclusive environment. Be mindful of relationships and take responsibility for your actions, accepting necessary consequences.

Event Conduct

  • Policy: Contribute positively at events.

  • Implementation: Show humility and respect for capoeira and the event's environment. Respect the host and other participants, aiming to build and improve the community, and avoid gossip and drama.

Feedback

  • Policy: Everyone is encouraged to contribute to the group's growth.

  • Implementation: Provide feedback at the right time, in the right way, with the right tone, and always with the intent of growth. Consider whether the feedback is necessary and for the group's benefit. Remember, decisions are made by the group leader, and disagreements should not be taken personally.

Work Responsibilities

  • Policy: Those working under the group's name and the master's name must act responsibly.

  • Implementation: Maintain clear communication to avoid conflicts. Agreements regarding timing, location, duration, expectations, salary, and any other important details should be documented in a contract and agreed upon by both parties.

Updating Your Account Information

  • Policy: Account information should be kept up to date.

  • Implementation: If you need to reset your password, use the “Forgot password?” option on the sign-in page. You cannot change the email address associated with your account, but you can create a new account with an updated email address.

Leveling Up

  • Policy: Students can choose to advance to the next level or stay in their current level.

  • Implementation: To advance, students must complete 70% of the previous level's requirements through participation and/or extra work outside class. More information is available in the program level book.

Conclusion

These rules are designed for the positive growth of the collective. Any student who disrespects these rules without a solid reason will be asked to leave the group. Let’s work together to create a supportive, respectful, and thriving capoeira community.
