JULIO ARRUDA DOS SANTOS
CAPOEIRA TEACHER, VISUAL ARTIST, AND PERFORMER
“The first time I tried capoeira, I fell in love, and I never stopped. I quickly understood how big capoeira is.”
Julio - known as Mestre Cabeção - started capoeira at age 10 in São Paulo, Brazil. He now has more than 20 years of experience teaching and performing capoeira all over the world, working with both children and adults, principally in Brazil, Mexico, France, and the United States. This has given him a unique perspective on how to work with different groups of people.
Before coming to Miami in 2018, Julio lived for seven years in Des Moines, IA, and fostered the capoeira community there. He led a capoeira group for adults and children, building their skills as athletes and performers. He was also a “cultural ambassador” for two educational associations. In this role, he worked with local schools delivering in-school, after school, and summer programming. Now here in Miami, his intention is to keep sharing all the benefits of practicing this beautiful art form.
“He taught me things about life, about humility, community and values that I haven't learned in my regular life. I had also gained a friend.” - DILLON PEREIRA, Adult student
